SimpliServ or Odoo? Why workshops often buy more work with an ERP toolkit
Odoo and SimpliServ compared: per-user pricing, implementation effort, POS and RKSV/TSE compliance, repair jobs and customer communication — with a clear recommendation per business type.

Odoo is a modular ERP toolkit with dozens of apps for sales, inventory, accounting, HR, websites and repairs, in the cloud or self-hosted. That breadth is exactly why Odoo and SimpliServ rarely answer the same question: Odoo is a platform you first build a system from, SimpliServ is the finished system. For a repair, service or retail business the decision is usually quick — and it goes against the build project.
Toolkit or industry solution
| Odoo | SimpliServ | |
|---|---|---|
| Core idea | general-purpose ERP assembled from apps | ready-made solution for repair, service and retail businesses |
| Coverage | very broad, from accounting to e-commerce | deep in job, workshop and POS processes |
| Customisation | close to unlimited, via Studio and development | templates, custom fields, workflows, API from Business |
| Rollout | configuration, often with a partner or dev team | import and setup by the vendor, one to two days |
| Pricing logic | per user per month, implementation separate | per business, user allowances included |
The cost calculation people miss
Odoo advertises a low per-user price — according to the Odoo pricing page, the Standard plan is around €24.90 per user per month, with the Custom plan adding Studio, API access and multi-company at a higher rate. For a six-person workshop that is roughly €150 per month before a single adjustment has been made.
The real line item is the rollout. An ERP that can do everything first has to learn how your business works: document sequences, tax logic, stock movements, job statuses, print templates. That work is done either by a partner at daily rates or by someone in-house on evenings and weekends.
SimpliServ costs €119 per month on Pro, including five users, POS, inventory and appointments, with import and setup part of onboarding. Details are on the pricing page.
What decides it in workshop practice
POS and fiscal obligations. Austria requires an RKSV-compliant signature with DEP export and FinanzOnline reporting; Germany requires a certified TSE. SimpliServ has this built in and signed via fiskaly. With a generic ERP it depends on country-specific modules and their maintenance — a point to clarify explicitly before deciding.
The repair job as a whole. Intake with photos and signature, device condition, cost estimate with customer approval, parts from stock, time tracking, ready notification, POS or invoice: in SimpliServ that is one process. In a toolkit those are several apps whose interplay you define yourself.
Customer communication without a project. Login-free status links, automatic ready notifications, appointment reminders and review requests work out of the box. In an ERP that is an automation project.
Usability at the counter. Workshop software is operated with oily hands between two customers, often on a tablet. Interfaces designed for desk-based administration cost minutes every day.
Adaptable without paying for it. The usual objection to industry solutions is that they are rigid. Custom fields, templates and forms, your own roles and permissions, a workflow builder from Business plus API and MCP connector cover exactly the adjustments a repair business actually needs — only without an implementation project, partner day rates and your own modules to maintain.
Modern rather than grown over time. SimpliServ runs in the browser — at the counter, on a tablet in the workshop, on a phone on the road. No installation, no server in the back room, no disruptive update windows: new features are simply there, included in the price.
Everything the toolkit still has to assemble. Products with variants and serial numbers, inventory with storage locations and stocktaking, the cash register, appointments, staff scheduling and time tracking, dunning, the customer portal, e-invoicing, accounting exports for DATEV and BMD and the Shopify, Wix and JTL connections are there out of the box and already fit together — without anyone selecting apps, wiring them up and maintaining them.
And clearly cheaper. Six Odoo users cost around EUR 150 per month before anything is configured. SimpliServ Pro is EUR 119 with five users, POS, inventory and appointments, initially EUR 49 on an annual plan, with setup and data migration included (worth EUR 199, currently free).
If either condition is missing, you pay for that flexibility in working hours rather than licence fees — and you carry the compliance risk for POS and e-invoicing yourself.
And if you need both?
It happens: SimpliServ for the workshop, POS and customer contact, with an ERP or accounting system behind it. That is why API access and an MCP connector are available from Business upwards, with individual ERP, DATEV and third-party integrations at Enterprise level. You do not have to choose between depth in the job and a connection to your finance stack.
Frequently asked questions
Doesn't Odoo already have a repair module?
Yes, Odoo ships a Repair app. It covers the repair process in principle but is not tailored to intake with photo documentation, customer approval by link and fiscally compliant POS in German-speaking markets. Test those three points against your own workflow.
Is SimpliServ customisable enough?
For its target process, yes: custom templates, custom fields, a form builder, roles and permissions, and a workflow builder from Business. If you need free programmability at ERP level, a platform suits you better.
What does leaving cost later?
SimpliServ allows data export at any time. Plan that point with any software before you commit — including self-hosted Odoo.
Doesn't Odoo still pay off with two users?
On licence cost alone, yes. What decides it is how many hours of configuration and rework come on top, and whether POS and e-invoicing are legally sound without extra effort.
Conclusion
For group structures with their own IT, Odoo is a comprehensive ERP. For a workshop, SimpliServ wins clearly: six users cost roughly EUR 150 a month in Odoo before anything is configured, while SimpliServ includes five users, a compliant cash register, inventory, appointments, the customer portal and e-invoicing for EUR 119 — set up for you.
